Baby Grendel is a five-piece indie punk art-rock band based in Portland, Oregon. Consisting of Jonathan Suarez (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Colleen Johnson (keys, backing vocals), Tomás Sakatani (lead guitar), Andrew Cardenas (bass), and Zach Cardenas (drums), what started in 2023 as the third phase of Jonathan Suarez’s solo recording project (following Small Town Sci-Fi) evolved into a collaborative full-band experiment that keeps its heart fixed on themes of death, grief, unabashed honesty, escapism, and self acceptance; and its mind focused on the questions: Are all worthy of love? Is everyone redeemable? Is the wisdom won from a life of constant pain worth the price of admission?

Following a West Coast tour promoting their 2025 EP Hatch(l)ing, the band released a new collection of songs titled Everybody Hates Me in the House in October, which is now available on streaming platforms and is included on the Hatch(l)ing (Deluxe) compact disc available for purchase at select Portland record stores and at live shows. The band was nominated for Best Indie/Alternative Song at the 2025 PNW Music Awards for their song "Satellite."
