Baby Grendel is a four-piece alternative rock band based in Portland, Oregon. Described as brooding melodic art rock, it is the third phase of Jonathan Suarez's songwriting career. The band now consists of Suarez (rhythm guitar, lead vocals), Colleen Johnson (keys, backing vocals), Zach Cardenas (drums), and Drew Cardenas (bass). Suarez's lyrics explore themes of death, grief, unabashed honesty, escapism, and self-acceptance. Baby Grendel's new EP Timeless (Do Flowers Grow on Barren Land), out June 2026, experiments with new sounds and textures. The band continues to grow the Hatchling Monster into what is to be expected of an insightful outsider in a corrupt and nepotistic world.

Past members include Joe Mengis (drums), Tomás Sakatani (lead guitar), and Faith Loomis (bass).
